When a ceiling fan stops working 9 times out of 10 it is usually the ceiling fan capacitor that has burnt out. A ceiling fan capacitor operates the fans speeds and start and stop mechanisms. If any of these features have stopped working then it is most likely the ceiling fan capacitor that has failed. Each wire on a ceiling fan capacitor has a uF (microfarad) rating which you will need to match up to your existing ceiling fan capacitor. Many times you can use a replacement capacitor that is within +/- (1uF/Microfarad) and the capacitor will still work.
